There have been several footballers’ demands that have raised plenty of eyebrows over the years. Although Kylian Mbappe was the latest example, he isn’t an exception.
Ronaldinho’s luxurious requests
The list that the Brazilian presented to Queretaro directors, while negotiating his signing, consisted of a house with a swimming pool, a beach football pitch, a seven-a-side football pitch and four butlers.
A beach just for Gervinho
During the negotiations with Hebei China Fortune, the Ivorian requested a private beach, a mansion for his family, a helicopter and air tickets to travel whenever he wanted back to his country.
In one of his several adventures and in order to become Al Wasl coach, Diego Maradona ended up in Dubai, where he demanded a private jet to travel to Spain to visit his daughter and granddaughter. The team accepted his request and dismissed him a year later.
Neymar Jr – Hotels
The most expensive transfer in the history of football had its complications, as Neymar firstly demanded 25 million euros for his yearly salary, that his debt to the taxman was covered and a chain of hotels opened under his name. Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi didn’t accept the Brazilian’s proposal and as a resulted the negotiations were frozen for a while.
Adebayor demands everything
Emmanuel Adebayor was close to signing for Lyon, but his demands ended up breaking the agreement. The Togolese asked for a mansion overlooking Corsica, a helicopter, a private chef and Alexandre Lacazette’s number 10. In the end he got nothing and the French club aborted the negotiations.
Lavezzi, king of China
The Argentine left PSG to join the Chinese league and make himself the best paid footballer in the world. However, he was not completely happy with the deal and demanded two fully furnished houses, two cars, a chauffeur and a private cook.
Lloris’ bonuses for losing
While winning bonuses are quite common in contracts, losing bonuses are rare. Hugo Lloris’ contract states that the player should receive 7,000 pounds every time he starts, 8,000 pounds if the team wins and 3,500 pounds if they draw or lose.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s well-hidden secrets
Football Leaks revealed that the current Juventus player demands a very strict confidentiality clause from his employees. Such is the obsession of the Portuguese to keep his private life secret, that his staff are forbidden to say anything “up to 70 years after the death of Cristiano Ronaldo or the last of his relatives.”
The Barcelona defender included a clause in his contract for which he would charge 100,000 euros just for agreeing to play in any other position (than his natural one).
A shirt with Agger’s company name on it
Although Brondby paid just 3 million euros to Liverpool to sign Daniel Agger, his contract included a clause suggesting that in the home games the team must wear on a shirt with the name of the company Kloagger, owned by the player, on it.
Everything but red
Van der Vaart was the star signing at Betis in 2015. According to Football Leaks, he signed a clause with the club which explicitly stated that he “could use any sports shoes, but in no case may they contain the colour red,” due to the team’s rivalry with Sevilla. The player received 14 monthly payments of 114,428 euros.
When Zlatan demanded everything
When Paris Saint-Germain got in touch with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Swede wasn’t eager to move to France and made unreal requests. “When I finished speaking with PSG, I told my wife that they would never accept my demands. Twenty minutes later I received a message saying: you have everything approved. I accepted because I am a man of my word,” he said later.
I want a tractor to be happy
Juventus prodigy Moise Kean was very close to renewing his contract with the Old Lady when his father complained that the club didn’t keep their word after promising to buy them a tractor and agricultural equipment.
