Ronaldo told his opinion about Benatia

The Portugal star is looking forward to playing with the centre-back after completing a sensational move to the Allianz Stadium on Monday

Juventus new signing Cristiano Ronaldo has praised Medhi Benatia as ‘a great defender’ and an ‘outstanding player’ despite their past experiences as opponents.

Benatia and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner have played against each other on several occasions, notable among the games was last season’s Uefa Champions League quarter-final fixture between the Old Lady and Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

During the encounter, the defender was adjudged to have pushed Lucas Vazquez inside the box; a call that infuriated the former Bayern Munich man as Ronaldo dispatched the resulting penalty to dump the Serie A champions out of the tournament in April.

Few weeks later, the duo locked horns at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia when Morocco succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Portugal in a Group B fixture.

However, following the completion of his transfer on Monday, Ronaldo disclosed that it will be interesting to play alongside the Atlas Lions defender.

“We fought hard and he’s a great defender. We had some clashes during the World Cup but that’s part of the game,” Ronaldo was quoted as saying by BBC.

“It will be interesting to play for the same club and have him as a team-mate. He’s an outstanding player.”
