Spanish radio station Cadena Ser have published a letter from Real Madrid to the Spanish football federation stating their complete opposition to the idea of playing Girona – Barcelona in Miami.

Real Madrid have sent a letter to the Spanish football federation utterly rejecting the possibility of playing this season’s LaLiga Girona – Barcelona match in Miami, a plan proposed by LaLiga president Javier Tebas.

The letter, published by Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, is categorical in its opposition to the plan to play the league game in the USA. Signed by José Ángel Sánchez Periánez, Real Madrid’s general manager, the letter states that the club’s opposition is because playing the game in Miami would affect the “integrity and fairness of the competition”

Real Madrid also explain that at no point has the club been informed by LaLiga of the possibility of playing the game overseas and therefore they cannot authorise such a move.

The letter also mentions four Real Madrid supporters clubs based in the USA, that, according to LaLiga, were in favour of a game being played in the USA. However Real Madrid include statements from these clubs indicating that these supporters clubs now support Real Madrid’s position that no LaLiga game should be played overseas.

Real Madrid reject USA plan

“Real Madrid cannot agree to one of the games of the League, in which our entity takes part, being played at a neutral venue”, states the letter, before going on to say that it is “surprising” that such a request should come from someone whose position should be utterly “impartial”.

The letter also sets out the club’s belief that the best way to bring Spanish footballl to the fans should be live televison broadcasts, which should be on channels capable of guaranteeing “the maximum audience”.
