Navas will ignore any opportunities to leave even if the club, who are understood to be close to signing Alisson, bring in a new goalkeeper.

Keylor Navas is expected to stay at Real Madrid next season, regardless of the club’s activity in this summer’s transfer window.

AS has learned that Los Blancos are closing in on the signing of Roma and Brazil number one Alisson, in theory paving the way for Navas to leave the Bernabéu. However, this newspaper can reveal that the Costa Rican international has no intention of listening to any offers that might come in, and is set on remaining in Madrid.

Keylor confident he’ll keep hold of the Real Madrid gloves

Having been Real’s first-choice goalkeeper – and contributed crucial, outstanding performances – in the side’s three consecutive Champions League triumphs, Navas has complete faith in his ability to challenge Alisson, or any other goalkeeper, for the jersey.

New boss Lopetegui has tried to sign keeper in the past

And recent history suggests that new head coach Julen Lopetegui is an admirer, further fuelling the custodian’s confidence. When the former Spain boss was in charge at FC Porto, he eagerly pursued the signing of the then-Levante keeper, before finally missing out to Real Madrid.

Navas’ determination to stay on also comes down to the emotional bond that he has formed with Real in his four seasons at the club. Having experienced life at Los Merengues, the 31-year-old – who only renewed his deal 18 months ago, and is under contract until 2022 – would view a move to any other side as a step down.
