Real Madrid finally draw a blank at home in Europe after 45 games

Real Madrid failed to hit the net at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night and ended a streak of 44 consecutive games in which they had scored at home in the Champions League.

Before CSKA, the last opponent to keep Los Blancos at bay were Barcelona under Pep Guardiola in a semi-final in the competition which they won 2-0.

Leo Messi scored twice in that game, which wasn’t without controversy due to Pepe’s famous sending off.

That defeat came in the 2010/11 campaign but since that night, Real had always scored in front of their own fans in Europe.

Since then, Madrid scored 127 goals across 44 games with an average of 2.9 per games on home turf.

However, on Wednesday, CSKA ended that streak by scoring three times and keeping Santiago Solari’s men quiet.
