Real Madrid have updated the numbers that the players will wear for the 2017-2018 season. There were many doubts in who will be the number 10 of the team, after James Rodríguez departure to Bayern de Munich. The number 10 is usually reserved to the players with talent who play as playmakers, and after many speculations that affirmed that Asensio or Isco will take that responsibility because of their technical conditions, finally Luka Modric has been the chosen one.
In the recent years, players as Robinho, Lass Diarra, Wesley Sneijder, Mesut Ozil and James Rodríguez have been Los Blancos numbers 10 but none of them had a good performance in their stage at Real Madrid. All of these players left the team without reaching the level expected for any reason and now Luka Modric will be the player who will try to end with this ‘curse’.
The Croatian will no longer wear the 19, the number that has followed him since his arrival to Real Madrid five years ago. His performance has been amazing, being nowadays one of the best playmakers in the world and having a lot of importance in the club. Luka Modric has been a key player in all Real Madrid successes in the recent years being the player who connects the midfield with the attack. We can also highlight the Marcos Llorente’s and Borja Mayoral’s numbers. The stopper will take number 18 while the striker, who it seems that he will go on loan this summer with the aim of playing minutes and grow as a player, will wear number 21.
