Manchester United are in ‘advanced negotiations’ to sign Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale, according to fresh reports.

The Manchester Evening News say the Welshman is a primary transfer target for the Red Devils for the second successive summer.

The report states that while a deal may eventually be agreed between the clubs, ‘Bale will have the ultimate say on whether he heads to Old Trafford’.

Earlier this week, Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett is quoted as telling ESPN FC: “Gareth will speak to the (Real Madrid) Coach (Julen Lopetegui) and we will go from there.”

The 28-year-old is under contract at the European champions until 2022 but faces competition for places from the emergence of Isco and Marco Asensio.

Cristiano Ronaldo has already left Madrid this summer, as had Coach Zinedine Zidane, as Los Blancos undergo widespread changes.
