Hoeness: Bayern Munich wouldn’t have paid €100m for 33-year-old Ronaldo

Bayern Munich were never in the race for Cristiano Ronaldo due to their unwillingness to pay the big price for his signature, president Uli Hoeness has said.

The Portuguese legend left Real Madrid after a decade in the Spanish capital to join Italian champions Juventus in a deal worth over 100 million euros.

However, Hoeness has claimed that even if the chance had presented itself to his German club to make the signing, his age would have prevented any kind of deal.

“We would have paid that amount for him with our eyes closed if he was 24 years old but he’s 33,” he explained in Bild.

Age doesn’t appear to be hindering Ronaldo in Turin, as he has 11 goals and six assists in his 18 games with the Bianconeri so far this season.

In fact, his start has been the best for a Juventus player since the 1968/69 season, when Pietro Anastasi scored nine goals in 14 league games to begin the campaign.
