Frenkie de Jong set to join big European team for €75m in the summer

Paris Saint-Germain have beaten Manchester City and Barcelona in the race to sign Europe’s most in-demand central midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has confirmed that a PSG delegation were in Amsterdam on Thursday to negotiate a deal for the 21-year-old, although added that there is no agreement between the clubs.

However, De Jong is reported to have quite surprisingly chosen PSG over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and La Liga giants Barcelona, and if they meet Ajax’s €75 million asking price, they will add the Dutch international to their star-studded squad.

De Telegraaf speculates that new Financial Fair Play issues may have contributed to City ‘fading into the background’ in the De Jong race.
