Spain boss Julen Lopetegui could be axed one day before the World Cup after being confirmed as the new Real Madrid manager on Tuesday, according to multiple reports from Spain.

Lopetegui and RFEF president Luis Rubiales are set to speak to the media on Wednesday morning.

Real Madrid announced that Lopetegui is to be their next head coach, replacing Zinedine Zidane after his shock resignation.

The 51-year-old will take over the European champions after this summer’s World Cup in Russia having agreed a three-year deal at the Bernabeu.
