Many of Real Madrid‘s struggles this term have come as a result of not taking their chances, but the famed trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo have since returned and taken their collective tally to 400 goals for the club.

After 280 days without all starting a match together, the Estadio Mestalla saw all three form a part of Zinedine Zidane’s starting line-up, and Ronaldo scored a brace of penalties which pushed the trident to the milestone.

The Portuguese forward has contributed over half with 225 goals, Bale has 76 and Karim Benzema has scored 99 since they all started playing together in the 2013/14 season.

In the 2017/18 campaign their contributions have differed wildly, mostly because of injury.

Ronaldo has found the net 20 times in all competitions, Bale has scored 9 times whilst a struggling Benzema has only managed a paltry 6 goals in 23 appearances.

These numbers are not what Real Madrid have been accustomed to as BBC have defined a hugely successful era for the club.

Yet their absence has shown just how vital they are to Zidane when they play together.

Their return is timely with the Champions League about to restart in 17 days.

Los Blancos face the tournament favourites, Paris Saint-Germain, and will be reliant on the forward three to pose a serious threat to their opponents.
