Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has admitted he will consider leaving the club at the end of the current season.

The 33-year-old is currently in his eighth campaign at the Camp Nou but is gradually being started less frequently due to the emergence of Samuel Umtiti, while he also confirmed he will retire from international duty after the World Cup.

“It’s clear that perhaps at the end of this season, I’ll analyse what to do,” Mascherano told TyC Sports.

“I still have a contract with the club of course and they have shown they are happy with me but at the moment I have not yet spoken with anyone.

“There will be time for me to think, now I play less frequently at club level because they now have two other central defenders who are better.

“I try to fight for my place in the team, likes always, and to be motivated and ready for when I am called upon.

“With Argentina? My time with the national team has come to an end and after next summer, I won’t be going any further with them.”
