Barcelona are reportedly confident that they will beat Manchester United and Liverpool to the signing of an Ajax sensation.

Centre-back Matthijs De Ligt is just 19, but such has been his progress that he has been watched by scouts all over Europe.

Ajax are expected to try and cash in on the youngster, but according to The Sun they want £48million for the player.

Manchester United and Spurs have been linked with De Ligt over the last few months with Spurs viewing him as a replacement for United target Toby Alderweireld.

On Thursday, Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk said his Holland team-mate will undoubtedly be on Liverpool’s list of potential targets.

However, a report in the Daily Mirror claims that LaLiga giants Barcelona are lining up a £60million bid to beat the competition and land the talented youngster.

That amount would represent the highest fee ever paid for a teenager, with the Catalan giants looking to source a long-term replacement for the 32-year-old Gerard Pique.

The report goes on to acknowledge the interest of Liverpool and United, but adds that Barca believe they are leading the pack.
