Manchester United fans believe Bruno Fernandes could go on to captain the club following his comments on Paul Pogba.

Fernandes has hit the ground running since his move from Sporting Lisbon in January, impressing both on and off the field.

As well as netting three goals and registering four assists in his first nine appearances for the club, the midfielder has earned praise from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his new United teammates for the impact he’s made on the training field and in the dressing room.

Given his fantastic performances so far, United supporters are eager to see the Portugal international line up alongside Pogba in the engine room when the Premier League returns.

Fernandes admitted his excitement at the prospect of linking up with the World Cup winner and backed his teammate to benefit from new confidence when he returns from injury.

His comments have delighted United fans who believe he is displaying all the characteristics of a future club captain.

Fernandes went on to compare Pogba to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and believes he feels a similar amount of pressure as the two footballing superstars.

He added: “It’s normal when you are in that situation you don’t play like a superstar, because everyone expects from Paul like they expect from [Cristiano] Ronaldo at Juventus or [Lionel] Messi at Barcelona.

“Everyone expects this from Paul in Manchester, because they know he has the qualities for this. Also this is confidence in Paul. The team, we have a lot of confidence in Paul.”
