Nani has named Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite Manchester United teammate and ranks his countryman above legendary footballers Diego Maradona and Pele as the best player in history.

The 33-year-old followed the same path as Ronaldo, graduating through Sporting Lisbon’s youth academy before making the switch to Old Trafford.

Nani won four Premier League titles and one Champions League crown during his time with United.

When asked who his favourite United teammate was during an Instagram question and answer session, he admitted he was surprised by Paul Scholes’ ability but gave the nod to the now Juventus star.

“One player who really surprised me and impressed me a lot in the beginning was Paul Scholes – he was phenomenal,” he told Football Wave.

“My favourite was still Cristiano Ronaldo – the best.

“Best player ever? I have seen so many… even from the past like Maradona, Pele… but I would pick my companion of many battles, someone I have won so much with, someone I really respect.

“Numbers don’t lie and they also show he is the best – Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Nani also named the toughest goalkeeper he’s ever faced, stating that former Chelsea stopper Petr Cech was always difficult to beat.

The Orlando City winger also said he had trouble playing against Ashley Cole too but joked he eventually got the better of the former Chelsea left-back.

Asked who the hardest goalkeeper he’s ever faced was, he said: “Maybe Petr Cech. I scored a few against him but he was always tough to face. He was tall, agile and tough to beat.

“Ashley Cole [gave me trouble]. He was really tough in the beginning.

“But then I got used to him and put him in my pocket!”
