Borussia Dortmund are ready to listen to offers for Jadon Sancho this summer after beating Manchester United to the signing of Erling Haaland.
Dortmund pulled off arguably one of the transfers of the season after they announced the signing of Haaland, the in-form 19-year-old striker, from RB Salzburg yesterday. It is understood that United pulled out of the running to sign Haaland after becoming frustrated by the negotiating tactics of his agent, Mino Raiola.
Haaland’s signing is likely to have repercussions for Sancho’s future at Dortmund. Sancho’s contract is due to expire in 2022 and Dortmund are aware that the teenager wants to return to the Premier League, where he was on Manchester City’s books before leaving for Germany in 2017 for £8 million. The feeling in Dortmund is that the club may want to cash in on the forward next summer.
Given that Sancho has gone on to win 11 England caps and become one of the most promising stars in Europe since joining, he will command a large fee. Dortmund are likely to ask for more than £100 million for him, and he will not be short of suitors. United, Real Madrid, City and Barcelona would all be interested in signing him. Under the terms of Sancho’s departure from City, they have the right to match any successful bid for him.
It is thought that Sancho, 19, is intrigued by the prospect of moving to Spain, but he would be interested in talking to United too.
The failure to sign Haaland is a blow to Solskjaer, who used to manage the forward at Molde. Other than Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, the only other striker at Solskjaer’s disposal is the 18-year-old Mason Greenwood.
