Barcelona are reportedly keeping an eye on Pep Guardiola’s situation at Manchester City, with a view to a potential return to Catalonia.

Guardiola last week dismissed claims that he was considering breaking his contract with the defending Premier League champions early, stating that he was committed to seeing out his deal until 2021 at the Etihad Stadium.

However, according to reports in UK newspaper the Daily Express, La Blaugrana are aware that their former boss can leave in 2020, if certain conditions in his contract are met.

Guardiola has consistently stated that he remains determined to achieve his objective of winning the Champions League with City in the next eighteen months, however he is open minded on the future beyond that.

The former Spanish international has previously taken a sabbatical between jobs, as he did between leaving the Camp Nou and joining Bayern Munich, and then moving from Bavaria to Manchester.

The report adds that whilst Barcelona have backed current boss Ernesto Valverde, there is still lingering frustration at their Champions League capitulation against Liverpool last season, and Guardiola would be a popular choice to return.

Guardiola enjoyed phenomenal succes at the Camp Nou as both a player and a manager, winning a total of 10 La Liga titles and three European Cup/Champions League titles.
