Atletico Madrid president, Hugo Cerezo, has made clear that his team have beaten Cristiano Ronaldo many times and they will continue to do so.
Ronaldo has been at the heart of some of Atletico Madrid’s most painful Champions League memories in recent years, both with Real Madrid and Juventus, however Cerezo remains confident in his club.
“Atletico have beaten Cristiano Ronaldo many times, and will continue to win,” Cerezo explained in an interview with Radio MARCA.
“We have no fear [of him] at all.
“He is a great player who has always scored goals, but he isn’t our problem.”
The clash with the Italian champions starts what could be a monumental week in Atleti’s season with Barcelona set to visit the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday in LaLiga Santander with just three points separating the two teams in the table.
“We are specialists in stringing together important matches,” Cerezo added.
“I think that today will be important because it gives us the chance to qualify.
“The match with Barcelona also gives us the chance to improve in LaLiga and top the table by the end of that day.”
With Diego Costa set to be out until 2020 following hip surgery, Los Colchoneros have been linked with a number of forwards in the January market, however Cerezo doesn’t believe that the team will be overly active in this regard.
“We’re not planning to sign in January, but if there is a need then we will look at it,” Cerezo confirmed.
“I don’t think there is though, because we have a great team.
“The issue is that Costa will be out for three months, but that aside everything is perfect, we have a great team.”
