Atletico Madrid are set to cross paths with old foe Cristiano Ronaldo once again on Tuesday, but Diego Simeone has stressed that his team travelled to Italy to face Juventus and they won’t focus on individuals.
The Argentine also praised the Portuguese superstar and labelled him as the best player in the world, because of his ability to consistently stand out.
“[Cristiano Ronaldo] is a champion and we can’t say anything,” he told the press conference.
“He is number one, extraordinary and always makes the difference.
“[However] I don’t think that it’s Ronaldo against Atletico, as we have come to play against Juve.”
Simeone insisted that his team follow his game-by-game philosophy and they don’t make calculations regarding their qualification to the next Champions League round.
“We have a way of working, thinking about tomorrow’s game and then there are a lot of results that can generate satisfaction or not,” he continued.
“Then we will look at the match that remains.
“The opponent is strong, [with] a powerful squad and a coach with a very strong style that he is transmitting to Juventus.”
Joao Felix returned to action against Granada after a month of absence due to injury and Simeone highlighted the reasons why Atletico need him on the pitch.
“He has been with us for a little while, he was injured a month ago and we couldn’t count on him,” he added.
“We need him because he is different, with characteristics that we don’t have on the field.
“With his humility, work and desire to improve as the first day, he will continue growing because he has talent and a lot [of it].”
