Vinicius Junior has confirmed he is determined for a long-term stay at Real Madrid and revealed he rejected Barcelona to join the club.

The 19-year-old had enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in the Spanish capital, with four goals in 19 starts in all competitions in 2018-19.

However, this season Vinicius has found things a little tougher and has been selected in Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI just four times this campaign, with a further six appearances as a substitute.

A recent report in Diario AS confirmed that the player wanted to stay at the club despite a host of other sides holding an interest, including Milan, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

“I had proposals from both Madrid and Barça, but I followed my father’s advice and chose with my heart,” Vinicius told Real Madrid TV, as cited by Cadena Cope.

In the same interview, the Brazilian has said “I see the Vinicius of the future at this club for a long time to come,” and “I feel that I have a special connection with Karim Benzema.”
