Ranieri turned down Wolfsburg!

It was never going to take long for Claudio Ranieri to be linked with a return to the managerial arena following his departure from Leicester City, and it was German side Wolfsburg who reportedly became the first side to attempt to lure the Italian back into management, but to no avail (Leicester Mercury).

We all know the story. Ranieri was ruthlessly axed by the Foxes just nine months after writing the most astonishing script in English football history. And then he was ironically replaced by a chap called Craig Shakespeare, who will oversee the defending champions until the end of the season.

Over in Germany Wolfsburg, who memorably hoisted the Bundesliga title in 2008/09, sacked Valerien Ismael last month, and then in the end opted to appoint Arsenal’s academy manager Andries Jonker, who became the relegation-threatened club’s third boss of what has been a troubled season.

Meanwhile Ranieri, who has been in the managerial arena since way back in 1986, is still reportedly keen to return to the dugout, but only if the right job opportunity crops up.

Undoubtedly Ranieri’s greatest achievement was leading 5,000/1 underdogs Leicester to the Premier League title last term, but he has also lifted silverware with the likes of Valencia, Fiorentina, Monaco and Cagliari.
