Eden Hazard scored his first goal for the club on Wednesday evening, and Zinedine Zidane feels that the main objective for the 2018/19 season is to be competitive.
It’s been a difficult pre-season for Zidane, with the lack of progress on a midfield signing having been frustrating, whilst a 7-3 defeat to Atletico Madrid had threatened to undermine all the work done since his return.
“What we want this year is to compete,” Zidane explained to Real Madrid TV.
“We won’t stray from that, if we compete then we will do good things.
“We have just one game left before the LaLiga Santander season starts, every day we’re getting better and today’s performance confirms that.”
Casemiro and Eder Militao returned to action following injury complaints, and the French coach was delighted to welcome the back into the fold.
“In the end, what the coach wants is to have everyone available,” he added.
“Some players needed a game.
“I appreciated the effort, it’s not easy to play in such a way against a difficult team, but we played in a serious manner with a lot of intensity.”
