Liverpool will go “all out” to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio – and could pay nearly £70million, according to reports from Spain.
Marco Asensio, who can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, is reportedly being lined up by Liverpool to provide competition and back-up for the front three.
But there could be a catch, with Real Madrid wanting Salah’s fellow Golden Boot winner Sadio Mane as part of a deal for Asensio.
El Desmarque reports that Klopp wants Asensio and Liverpool are willing to pay up to £68million for the 23-year-old, who cost Real Madrid just £3.15million from Mallorca in 2015.
However, the same publication says Real Madrid would not be prepared simply to sell to the Champions League winners, especially as they intend to take their European crown from them next season – and would see the deal as a way to bring Mane to the Bernabeu.
Asensio has struggled for game time at the Bernabeu, but as HITC points out, Reds boss Klopp has a reputation for getting the best out of his players, and Asensio is at the right age to develop and potentially become a superstar at Anfield.
Spanish outlet Marca has previously reported that Zidane believes Asensio has a future at Real Madrid and is prepared to help the Spaniard rediscover his form next season.
But Asensio would still face fierce competition for a place in Real Madrid’s first team in the new season.
Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Vinicius, Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez will all be battling it out alongside Asensio for a spot in the starting XI.
