Marquinhos admitted has admitted that he is unsure about Neymar’s future with Paris Saint-Germain, where they both ply their trade.
Instead, he stated that it is something the forward and the PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, need to discuss.
“I don’t know, I don’t know… The situation is delicate,” Marquinhos said at Brazil’s press conference ahead of their game with Peru on Saturday.
Should Brazil and Peru draw, both teams would advance to the quarter-finals.
“Our goal is qualifying [for the next round],” the centre-back added.
“We have to be focused because there are many factors that involve this match.”
The Selecao have been criticised for their underwhelming performances in the Copa America thus far, in large part due to the absence of Neymar, who will miss the tournament after sustaining an injury in one of the pre-tournament warm-up matches, but Marquinhos doesn’t want to make excuses.
“We have to look to improve in every aspect of our lives, as footballers and as people,” he noted.
“In the national team, we also have to reflect and try to improve.”
