New Real Madrid signing Eden Hazard is relishing the opportunity to work with Zinedine Zidane who was his idol growing up.

Hazard linked up with Real coach Zidane earlier this week when he completed a £130million move from Chelsea.

Belgium captain Hazard revealed that he was so in awe of Zidane, who is 18 years his senior, that he became a fan of the French national team.

‘I started watching football because of him,’ Hazard told Real Madrid TV. ‘I lived in Belgium, but I supported France because of Zidane.’

Zidane famously won the 2002 Champions League final with a stunning volley at Hampden Park.

Hazard added: ‘My first memory was when Zidane scored that volley against Bayer Leverkusen.

‘Now, we can work together and that is a very special feeling. I’ll be at pre-season next month to put myself at his service.’

More than 50,000 fans were at the Bernabeu to welcome Hazard to Real on Thursday.

He said: ‘It’s a great feeling. The shirt means a lot to me. Real Madrid are the best club in the world, it’s hard to describe how I feel.’
