Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is set to decide his next team after the Netherlands’ fixtures against England in the UEFA Nations League and Germany as part of their qualifying campaign for the 2020 European Championship.
According to Marca, Barcelona have sent their final offer to the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, and they are awaiting the Dutchman’s answer.
De Ligt has expressed his desire to play alongside Lionel Messi and Frenkie de Jong, his close friend and former Ajax teammate, to the Catalan side’s directors.
His salary expectations, however, have soared after Ajax’s impressive run in the Champions League, which saw them reach the semi-finals, and his crucial performances and timely goals almost led the Dutch giants all the way to the final.
According to Ronald Koeman, the Netherlands’ boss, the most important thing for the player to consider is moving to a team where he is guaranteed minutes, and at Barcelona there is a lot of competition in his position with quality defenders such as Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti.
As reported by Radio Montecarlo on Wednesday, the only candidate to sign De Ligt this summer are the Blaugrana and Paris Saint-Germain.
