Barca’s decision to sign Frenkie de Jong is still generating comment in Holland. The Ajax midfielder had offers on the table from big clubs like PSG but opted for Barca even though he might not be an automatic starter.
Former Barca coach Louis van Gaal said on TV show De Tafel van Kees that he has doubts about De Jong’s minutes.
“I think that he will have to fight at Barca. Not just because he will have a different role than he had at Ajax but because of the competition he will find too,” said Van Gaal.
“Rakitic is an incredible player too and I wanted to sign Arturo Vidal when I was United coach. A player should always take into account the minutes he will have when there is a transfer.”
However he believes De Jong can thrive. “Frenkie is a fantastic player and can definitely bring a plus to this Barca side.”
