Blow for Vinicius’ Copa America hopes

Vinicius’ hopes of proving his fitness to Tite ahead of Brazil’s Copa America squad announcement on Friday were hurt as he played just 15 minutes against Real Sociedad.

The 18-year-old was denied a spot in the starting line-up by Zinedine Zidane and was the French coach’s final substitution.

It was the same amount of time he was given last weekend when he made his return from a two-month injury lay-off against Villarreal.

Now, Vinicius is praying that Tite includes him in the Brazil squad for their home tournament that starts on June 14.

The winger received his first senior call-up for the Selecao ahead of the March internationals, but the knee injury he sustained against Ajax prevented him from actually earning his first cap.

With Los Blancos not fighting for silverware, Zidane has decided not to rush Vinicius back to action despite the Brazilian’s desperation to be in Tite’s next squad.
