Atletico may terminate Morata loan

Atletico Madrid could terminate the loan of Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata this summer.

After struggling at Chelsea, Morata joined Atletico in an 18-month loan deal in January.

However, as reported by The Sun, Atletico are considering sending Morata back to Stamford Bridge after it emerged that they would have to pay Chelsea £15million to keep him until 2020.

Given that Chelsea are under a transfer ban, having an extra attacking option available could be beneficial, but they will also have Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi back from loan spells at Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively.

Morata has mustered six goals in 16 appearances for Atletico so far, and manager Diego Simeone is looking to bring in a more effective striker.

After signing for the Blues in the summer of 2017, Morata scored 24 times in 72 appearances and received a considerable amount of criticism from some supporters.

Morata’s contract at Chelsea runs until the summer of 2022, although it seems unlikely that he will see it out.
