Robertson ‘identified as Barcelona target’ after impressing for Liverpool

Barcelona are reportedly big fans of Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.

The Scotland captain has enjoyed a fine season for the Reds, with Jurgen Klopp’s men into the Champions League final and one game away from the Premier League title.

Robertson has provided 13 assists along the way and was excellent in the victory over Barcelona in week.

And reports in Spain suggest Barca bosses are big admirers of Robertson, who was involved in spats with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez over the two legs of the semi-final.

Mundo Deportivo reports Robertson is the sort of player Barca would be targeting – despite him being contracted at Anfield until 2024.

Robertson cost Liverpool just £8m when he arrived from Hull in 2017 but the Reds would be able to demand a significant amount more now.

And Barca would have to pay an even greater fee with Liverpool agreeing a £100m premium for any player following their sale of Philippe Coutinho to the La Liga champions.

That means Barca would have to pay around £160m just to open talks with Liverpool over Robertson, who was forced off with an injury during the second leg.

Current Barca left-back Jordi Alba only turned 30 in March but there are suggestions the club are looking to move on some of their older players.

Alba was at fault for Liverpool’s opening goal at Anfield with his missed header letting in Jordan Henderson, before Divock Origi pounced.
