There was an unsavoury incident at the end of the Coupe de France final when Neymar hit a fan who was insulting him as the Paris Saint-Germain players made their way up the Stade de France steps to collect their runners-up medals.
Alex Bernardo, an image consultant for the player, has spoken out about the insults that were being shouted.
“I’m not going to debate if this was the correct way to deal with the issue,” Bernardo wrote in a statement published on Instagram along with the video from the fan involved.
“But it was deserved.
“He was recording as he shouted ‘You’re slow [Gianluigi] Buffon, I don’t want your greetings [Layvin] Kurzawa, racist [Marco] Verratti, you’re a bastard Neymar and need to learn how to play’.
“These types of comments shouldn’t be allowed.
“These players are heated after losing a final and an idiot provokes them.
“Doesn’t he have some blame?
“I haven’t read a single criticism of the fan’s behaviour, which would have been deserved.
“Neymar, as always, defended his teammates.
“Who will defend the fact he defended his teammates?
