Juventus’ pursuit to bolster their defensive ranks this summer could see them turn their attention to Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld.
Spurs activated a one-year option at the turn of the year to extend the Belgium international’s contract until 2020.
But by doing so, they also triggered a separate clause allowing the player to leave for £25million if clubs reach this clause before the last two weeks of upcoming summer window.
It has now been claimed by Calciomercato that Juve will step up their interest in the Belgium international this summer.
Matthijs de Ligt is their No.1 target but it remains to be seen if the Ajax star will arrive in Turin, with Barcelona also interested in signing the highly-rated Dutch defender.
Manchester United were previously interested in Alderweireld during Jose Mourinho’s reign, and his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to still be keen on signing a defender.
Juventus , meanwhile, are targeting up to two new central defenders this summer as they aim to maintain their domestic dominance and are also targeting Champions League success.
The Italians were knocked out of Europe’s elite club competition by Ajax last week, and it remains their priority to taste European glory.
Alderweireld is a fans’ favourite at Tottenham, having impressed since arriving from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in 2015.
