Tottenham forward Heung-min Son has emerged as a surprise contender to be on the official cover of FIFA 20.

Son is currently topping a poll conducted by FIFPlay who asked fans which player they would like to feature on the front of the new EA Sports game, which will be released later this year.

As of Friday night, 1,208,160 votes had been cast, with Son the leader.

Son had a 17 per cent share, as did Juventus frontman Cristiano Ronaldo but the South Korean was ahead by a margin of 3,626 votes.

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi was third in the poll with 16 per cent, while Neymar and Mo Salah were fourth and fifth respectively.

EA Sports are not obliged to choose their next FIFA cover star based on the result of the vote.

But the poll highlights the popularity of Son, who scored three of Tottenham’s goals during their two-legged Champions League epic against Manchester City.

Son scored the winner as Tottenham claimed a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the quarter-final, then bagged a brace in a 4-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, which saw the London side progress on away goals.
