Marco Asensio may not have had the best season with Real Madrid, but he remains a top talent and his shown what he can do on enough occasions, according to Marca.

His season hasn’t been helped by his two injuries or by certain coaching decisions, but Zinedine Zidane is the new boss at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and has told the player that he is in his plans.

The Frenchman was the one who gave Asensio his opportunity at Real Madrid, so impressed was he with the youngster during pre-season in the summer of 2016.

Now, three years later, one of Zidane’s first acts upon returning was to have a face-to-face chat with the 23-year-old.

“You’re going to be fundamental in this team and I want you here with us,” Zidane told him.

This view is shared in the club offices, as the directors think Asensio can be an important piece of the Real Madrid puzzle.

The coach and the president Florentino Perez are in agreement on that.

Asensio was one of the brighter sparks during the Champions League elimination against Ajax, scoring away and at home, while he then assisted Isco in Zidane’s first match back.

His call-up by Luis Enrique for the most recent Spain squad has also refreshed his confidence.

Given that he can count on the backing of Zidane as well, the future still looks bright for the man from Mallorca.
