Former Argentina coach César Luis Menotti has been outspoken on the Barcelona striker’s call-up by current boss Lionel Scaloni.

Argentina World Cup winning manager César Luis Menotti once again reiterated in his interview with Fox Sports that: “Lionel Messi should not be called up to the national team”. He stated that if these forthcoming friendly games are an opportunity for new talent to be tested then the presence by the likes of Messi was unnecessary. He added that the ongoing debate generated by Messi in the Albiceleste shirt produces nothing more than “emotional wear and tear”.

Menotti also affirmed that Agüero’s absence was due to a consensual footballing nature and the City player was an excellent talent.

The former Atleti and Barça coach went on stating that the forthcoming friendly games against Venezuela and Morocco had little football merit but were being stages as business ventures.

He finished upon being asked about the current national team coach Lionel Scaloni with Menotti stating that “he’s being evaluated closely and he’s aware of it”.
