Real Madrid have renewed the hope amongst supporters after Zinedine Zidane got off to a winning start to his second reign in charge, right-back Alvaro Odriozola claimed after their 2-0 win over Celta Vigo.
The Frenchman returned to the dugout for the first time since replacing Santiago Solari and started with a victory thanks to Isco and Gareth Bale’s goals.
Among the highlights for the right-back was simply to play under a man who he was a huge fan of when growing up.
“We are very happy [to have Zidane back],” he said in the mixed zone at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“As a child, he was my idol and now he is my coach, so it is a dream for me.
“The win is a result of our hard work in the past three days and this is a new beginning for us.
“He was one of the best players in history and as a coach, when he speaks, he knows what he is talking about.
“We are going to fight to the death because this club demands it of us and the hope has been renewed, which was necessary for now and the future.”
Odriozola was keen to steer clear of questions regarding Zidane’s surprising first starting line-up, with Keylor Navas, Isco and Marcelo all returning to the side.
“We weren’t surprised by the XI,” he continued.
“We are ready to play, or not to play, if that is what the coach decides because we know the quality of our squad.
“After a tough week, we must now look to the future and finish the season out with dignity and honour as we look to win our last 10 games.
“We must be focussed day-to-day and it won’t weigh on us who plays or who doesn’t.
“We are all ready to give 100 percent at all times.”
