Friday’s Champions League draw put together a number of mouth-watering ties, yet crucially it kept Barcelona and Juventus apart for both the quarter-final and semi-final, ensuring there is the chance for a Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo final.
Both superstars played their part this week in ensuring their respective clubs were actually in the draw, where Juventus were paired with Ajax and Barcelona drawn against Manchester United.
The winner of Juventus’ tie with the Dutch giants will play the winner of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in the last four of the tournament.
Messi and Ronaldo have faced each other on three occasions in the Champions, two of which coming whilst the Portuguese forward represented the three-time winners of the tournament, Manchester United.
The 2007/08 season paired Barcelona and United in the final four of the competition, which Los Cules lost, however Messi was to have the last laugh with his Barcelona charges winning the 2009 final in Rome and the knocking Ronaldo’s Real Madrid out in the 2011 semi-final.
