Pique: I hope to convince Valverde to play me as a centre-forward

Having scored his seventh goal of the 2018/19 season against Lyon on Wednesday night, Gerard Pique is clearly in great goalscoring form and he even joked about changing position.

The centre-back claimed he is trying to convince Ernesto Valverde to play him further up the pitch.

“If I see Luis Suarez looking tired then I’ll say to the coach to let me go up front,” he said after the match.

“I hope to convince him to put me there.

“I can see when I have an advantage and when I have a chance to score.

“I’ve always liked to help out in attack.”

Another player who is having fun putting the ball in the back of the net is Pique’s former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and the Catalan was asked about the No.7’s hat-trick against Atletico Madrid.

“Big stars matter a lot, but they don’t win things on their own,” he said when asked about Ronaldo.

“Having someone like Lionel Messi in your team gives you the important calm to be able to take on challenges.

“What he does isn’t normal.

“He had a great game, with two goals and two assists and one shot that was cleared off the line.”

Pique was also asked if Barcelona can win a treble this season.

“We’re alive in all three competitions, but it’s too early to talk about a treble,” he said.

“We’ll go step by step.

“We’re in a similar position to last year and we have to learn from that experience.

“We have a tough match on Sunday.”

Barcelona travel to take on Real Betis in LaLiga Santander on Sunday night.
