Benzema: I used to play for Cristiano Ronaldo, now I’m the leader of the attack

Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema is happy to embrace the role of leader of Real Madrid’s attack.

The striker has stepped up this season following the exit of the Portugal international to join Juventus last summer.

Benzema revealed that he played much more selflessly with Ronaldo in the team to provide his teammate with regular ammunition but is now happy to take on the scoring burden for himself.

“Now I’m the leader of the attack, whereas before I used to play for Cristiano,” he told France Football.

“I was always looking for him with the aim of helping him score even more goals.

“That meant that I would play in the background but now it is up to me to show that I want to score.”

The front cover of the edition which features the interview comes with the splash headline which says ‘I love my life’ as Benzema opens up on his newfound happiness.
