One of the main turning points in Saturday’s Madrid derby was the penalty awarded to Real Madrid for a Jose Maria Gimenez foul on Vinicius, one which the centre-back believes was outside of the area.
While he admitted that he fouled the Brazilian, the Uruguayan wasn’t convinced by the decision to award a spot kick.
“From my point of view it was a foul,” he explained after the match.
“It was quite a risky move on my part as I tried to get to a difficult ball.
“Then when he falls there is contact, but the foul is outside of the area and I have no doubt about that.
“There are photos of this.”
The penalty was awarded, though, and Sergio Ramos converted.
