The new Number 9 in Real Madrid

Real Madrid will make the short trip to Leganes this Wednesday night as they look to finish the job in their Copa del Rey tie and Vinicius is set to start once again, potentially doing so at centre-forward.

The 18-year-old has been playing as a winger during his time in the team, but the fact that so many attacking players are injured could see him shifted into the centre.

With Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio all out, he’ll be expected to conjure up something in attack.

Lucas Vazquez and Isco may be with him in the wide positions, but the bulk of the offensive responsibility will be on the teenager’s shoulders.

Although the argument could be made that the lack of alternatives should convince Santiago Solari to wrap Vinicius in cotton wool ahead of this weekend’s clash with Sevilla, the Argentine doesn’t want to run any risks at the Estadio Butarque.

As such, he’ll use the in-form Brazilian and give him his fourth consecutive start.

Vinicius has passed the tests he’s faced so far and now will try to show that he can also perform well as a No.9.
