Another twist in the tale of Solari and Isco

The conflict between Isco and Santiago Solari took another turn between Tuesday and Wednesday as Real Madrid prepared for their Copa del Rey meeting with Leganes.

One the eve of the game, Solari trialled a possible starting line-up, which included the Spaniard in midfield alongside Casemiro and Dani Ceballos.

As it turned out, the backup eleven won the match and posed for a group photo afterwards, which included Fede Valverde.

Therefore, it seems clear that Solari had planned to start Isco, only to later change his mind and start with Valverde instead for reasons that are known only to him.

The surprise was announced to the group when the team was named and the only change from the previous day’s trial match was that Valverde stepped in to replace Isco.

It is just the latest blow for the player as his immediate future grows increasingly uncertain.
