Real Madrid have nine nominees for UEFA’s Team of the Year

Having won the Champions League for the third consecutive season, Real Madrid are well represented in the UEFA Team of the Year with nine players, plus Cristiano Ronaldo – who has since departed for Juventus.

The voting on UEFA’s website is open to the public and the team is selected by the fans, who can vote from this Monday until January 11, 2019, when the chosen players will be announced.

The panel, composed of UEFA’s website editorial team as well as various other journalists, selected 50 candidates (five goalkeepers, 15 defenders, 15 midfielders and 15 forwards).

Real Madrid have representation through Keylor NavasSergio RamosMarceloRaphael VaraneCasemiroIscoToni Kroos, Luka ModricGareth Bale and Ronaldo, who of course is now in Italy with Juventus.

Barcelona‘s nominees are Marc-Andre ter StegenJordi AlbaGerard PiqueSamuel UmtitiIvan RakiticLionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid have six players nominated for the Team of the Year, starting with goalkeeper Jan Oblak, before moving on to Jose Maria GimenezDiego GodinLucas HernandezSaul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann.
