It was made explicitly clear by Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde, that he will be taking no chances whatsoever with Lionel Messi’s fitness.
Although the captain and No.10 has travelled to Italy in preparation for the Champions League match with Inter, it’s not a foregone conclusion that he will play any part in the game.
“I have brought everyone available,” Valverde said to reporters in his pre-match press conference.
“He could be available, but we have to wait, let’s see how he feels about his safety.
“I can’t anticipate anything but what is clear is that we aren’t going to take any chances with Messi.”
As has become commonplace, Valverde warned about the quality of Barcelona’s opponents.
“We expect a rival similar to at Camp Nou,” he continued.
“Maybe more aggresive because they’re at home.
“They’re a very intense team that wants to dominate and are in a good moment of form.
“It will be difficult because they’re a brave team with a way of playing that I love.”
If Barcelona win the match, they’ll qualify from the group as winners.
“We need to control the game to have that chance,” Valverde added.
“Being in this situation in such a difficult group is fine, and we would like to win.”
