There was a homecoming of sorts as Ronaldo Nazario took his seat in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu director’s box to watch Real Madrid take on Real Valladolid.
He was received very well as he returned to his former home and was warmly greeted in his new role as opposing owner.
Nobody viewed him as an enemy on the day, despite his new job, and he was greeted as an old friend around the stadium.
Since leaving football, Ronaldo has dreamt of this moment, sitting next to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and sharing football talk with the main man at Los Blancos.
Between those two, there is something that goes beyond friendship and that was witnessed through the warm embraces as they shared food together and discussed the game in a relaxed way in their seats alongside each other.
Ronaldo arrived accompanied by his advisor Carlos Suarez, the former Valladolid supremo, and some other board members for the visiting side.
It felt like coming home for him because technically he is still an advisor to Real Madrid.
He smiled and hugged many around the director’s box, which he entered for the first time as an ‘enemy’, although in truth everyone connected with the club knows he will never be viewed as such.
