Suarez talks about El Calsico and Ronaldo

Barcelona continued their fine continental form with an impressive victory over Inter on Wednesday, and with Real Madrid awaiting in Sunday’s ClasicoLuis Suarez has made clear that despite Cristiano Ronaldo‘s departure, a team is always above any single player.

The Portuguese forward has settled into life at Juventus with unsurprising ease, even performing well on his second Old Trafford return on Tuesday, yet Los Blancos have felt his absence tremendously with the club setting a new, if rather unwanted, record for minutes without scoring.

“We all know what kind of player Cristiano Ronaldo is, but a team is always above any single player,” he explained in an interview with Barcelona‘s official media channel.

“They have other great players who can make the difference.

“We have to play our game without thinking about which players our opponents have.”

The first Clasico of the 2018/19 campaign will be a hotly contested affair with both teams needing to get their respective domestic seasons back on track, although the Uruguayan is aware the fixture is more than just a LaLiga Santandermatch.

“A Clasico is a Clasico, in the last one of last season we were already champions and played with great intensity,” he intimated.

“The matches are always like that.

“We really want to do well, you don’t think about how the other team plays, you simply come into the game with intensity, it’s a Clasico and we live it to the maximum.”

Julen Lopetegui remains under sizeable pressure in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu hot seat and a poor result on Sunday is unlikely to be looked upon favourably by those in power at the club.

With that being said, the former Liverpool forward has made abundantly clear that the Blaugrana won’t be taking anything for granted despite the former Porto coach’s struggles.

“They have a new coach and that is always an extra motivation for players to show they deserve to play,” he confirmed.

“You have to be very careful because they have players with a lot of quality.

“However, like any opponent they have their weaknesses and we must take advantage of them.”
