The under-fire Real Madrid coach received support from the club’s director
Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno backed Julen Lopetegui, saying the under-fire coach had his trust.
Lopetegui is under increasing pressure at the European champions after a four-match winless run, during which Madrid have failed to score.
But Butragueno – director of institutional relations at the club – offered the former Spain boss support ahead of Madrid’s hosting of Levante in LaLiga on Saturday.
“We have a great technical team. We trust them and we are confident that we will have a good season,” he said on Friday.
“Real Madrid always go to win at any field and every time we play it’s for the millions of fans around the world.”
Sergio Ramos also recently came to Lopetegui’s defense, saying that it would be “crazy” for the club to fire the manager so soon in the campaign.
Lopetegui joined Real Madrid just before the World Cup, prompting Spain to dismiss the coach in the lead up to the group stage opener.
Thus far, the results haven’e been to expectations, as Madrid currently sits fifth in the league, a point behind Barcelona and three points behind stunning leaders Alaves, who have played an extra match.
Madridy are kicking off before their rivals this matchday, and could jump top with a win over Levante.
Lopetegui says he is confident that the club will emerge from the recent downturn, adding that he is looking only forward as the season continues.
