Wenger: Germany need Ozil

Former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger hopes Mesut Ozil will return to Germany’s national team after his retirement immediately after finishing the World Cup this summer in Russia.

Ozil retired complaining of the bad treatment that the German Football Federation (DFB) had done after the World Cup, where Germany failed to qualify in the best 16.

Joachim Low’s team was not able to get through the group stage, suffering shameful losses against Mexico and South Korea.

Their weak form continued after the World Cup after being defeated by the Netherlands – not qualified for the World Cup – and by the World Cup champion in the two Nations League games this month.

Wenger was Ozil’s coach during 2013-2018 at Arsenal, and now insists that Germany’s national team miss him.

“I think Germany needs Ozil and hope Low can convince him to return,” Wenger told Sport Bild.

“Ozil is super footballer and he was not the worst in the World Cup,” he added.
