Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has smashed the pubblic votes for Ballon d’Or with nearly half of the votes for hours, more than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric. But now, the Barcelona captain has taken the lead.

Over 461,000 votes have been cast by members of the public on the official Ballon d’Or website for who should win the 2018 award.

Mohamed Salah is leading the poll with 41% of the vote until now (15:49 CET), Lionel Messi is second with 39%, Cristiano Ronaldo sits third with 7%.

No other player has more than 5%, including FIFA The Best Men’s Player of the Year winner Luka Modric.

However, Messi has surpassed Salah until 16:58 CET with 44% of the votes, Ronaldo remains on third with 8%.

World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann has only received 1% of the public votes until now, with Kylian Mbappe having 2%.

Neymar receives 2% while Ivan Rakitic and Raphael Varane both get 1%.
