Julen Lopetegui tells the reason why Ramos will not play

Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui answered the press’ questions at the pre-match conference in Moscow ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against CSKA.

On if it’s extra special against CSKA tomorrow in Luzhniki, where Spain got knocked out of the World Cup:

“I have not thought about that – it is a special game as it is Real Madrid against a top Russian team in a Champions League game.

“Once the Champions League music sounds, the motivation of my team is at maximum. We will aim for a great game, with the difficulties we have, but also the resources we have. I am sure we can achieve our objective.”

On how he feels about Real Madrid failing to score against Atletico:

“The feelings from a really tough demanding game against a rival with an extra day of rest were very positive. We were superior to Atletico Madrid, even with all the adversities we faced.”

On how he’ll fix up back four without Ramos and Marcelo:

“[Ramos] has played more minutes than anyone, and we felt it better that he did not come for this game. There is nothing to it, the same as with any other player, happened with Toni [recently] too.”

“The difficulties we might face we will resolve with the resources we have. They also have their best players back for this game, and we will try and give a good response. The psychological state of this team is incredible. I have maximum confidence in Odriozola. I don’t need to say that.”

On Vinicius:

“Vinicius is a kid going through a process, still very young. He has a great future and will go forward bit by bit. We will use him, like all the squad, when we feel it is best.”

On Ceballos:

“Dani is a kid who we have liked from the start. We will see bit by bit his place in the team. He is responding the best way to our confidence, playing fantastic football.”

On the opponents:

“CSKA are in very good form, having got their best players back from injury. They can play different systems, they have very high-level players, and will play a very good game tomorrow, no doubt. The atmosphere will be incredible. We must be prepared for a very demanding match.”

On CSKA coach Goncharenko saying now is a good time to play Madrid given injuries:

“He will be very happy to welcome us so, we will see tomorrow,” replied Lopetegui with a wink.
